French-door refrigerators blend form and function. They have stylish double doors that show a large fridge on top and a freezer drawer below. Special features like door-to-door dispensers, ice machines with higher-end features and adjustable flex drawers make them stand out from the crowd.
We consulted Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right home. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency among other aspects.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Like the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets those who want to incorporate cutting-edge features in their kitchen. This fridge has them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive, so I expected better.
This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the blip. It has a huge freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth French door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.
Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment offers 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for the size of a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. However it's not the most spacious one I've seen.
You can adjust the shelving in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for what you want to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. The LED lighting adds a nice touch. The bins for storage inside have a third shelf which can be folded down to store tall objects. The drawers come with temperature controls, so you can set them for Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open, but I found the textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.
french style fridge freezers has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from any place across the globe. It also comes with a lot of customization options. It also alerts you when a door is left open, when the refrigerator or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.
It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill it's an option in other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to dispense at once. It does have a countdown feature on the display of the fridge to display how much water have left, but it's not as useful as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
It is designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also boasts a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher longer and dual compressors for maximum preservation of food. The Ice maker we tested is one of the most efficient, and it produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This refrigerator is ideal for a single household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the best food preservation.
The fridge was rated the best refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed by more than a fraction, this is essential to avoid freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, achieving the desired initial set temperature within an hour and maintaining the temperature constant over the course of our testing.
Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely from your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is costly, but offers great features and functions at a reasonable price.
While the fridge is a fantastic piece of equipment but it's important to be aware of the limitations. You might need to be creative with tall items because the fridge is limited in shelf space. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp objects. It's easy to remove the trays from the fridge However, be sure to clean them frequently to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage space into the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized bins for the doors on each door, two rows of spill-capture shelves and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right side can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. There's also a full-width storage drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.
One of the nice things about this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge to be used when it is needed. The freezer also features innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you organize your belongings. It also comes with a large bin that can hold plenty of frozen food items and a separate container for storing ice.
Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a simple method to monitor your fridge and manage it, especially when not at home.
However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily enhance the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this fridge as compared to other fridges we tested. This is likely due to its larger capacity.
Another issue with the doors of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they had handles mounted on the front.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is superior to counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which helps make it a desirable choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune this Frigidaire is a great choice. It's a minimalist design that's not as striking in appearance as some of the competition however it comes with enough features to make it a solid pick. Its most important characteristic is the adjustable temperature drawer that helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.
The "Chill Drawer", which is situated above the two crisper bins, is another great feature. This drawer allows you to direct a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power into the area so it can be used to store food items that require extra attention. This feature is adjustable using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the general settings work better than the specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and even the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a solid performance, but it doesn't quite make it to the top of our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to an intelligent thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body that has a "smudge-proof" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
